The opening day of the Milan 2010 T.R.A.F.F.I.C event saw an introduction from Rick Latona about the European domain market, including an interesting point on the .cn domain which dominates the internet world in Europe. The event is full of international representatives from the domain industry, including many professionals from Europe, the US and Australia.

Continuing the proceedings on the first day was a conference on the European domain market, with .de the first TLD in Europe with more than 13 million. It’s followed by the TLDs of .uk, .nl and .eu, with .it in fifth spot. Europe has registered an explosion in domain name requests, and with few disputes taking place, mostly over infringement of brands already established.

The biggest traffic in European TLD requests, sales and purchases are generally for money lending, online betting and sex services, reflecting a worldwide trend, and most domain requests are for actual websites, rather than speculation. The first day concluded with an auction of European domains including interesting names such as interpreters.eu, golfresort.eu, progressive.eu and diapers.eu. The starting price on the auctions was 500 euros and the results are as follows:

Apples.eu: sold for 600 euro.
Buygold.eu: sold for 600 euro.
Esayloans.eu: sold for 600 euro.
