With all the talk about cloud computing lately, it’s easy to forget that a similar type of shared web hosting has been around for some time: clustered hosting.
Just like with cloud computing, sites on clustered hosts have their load spread out among multiple servers. This greatly reduces the risk of failure compared to a typical shared host, where the site sits on a single server.
In addition, clustered hosting provides great protection from certain security threats. A DDOS attack can cripple a server very easily, but if a site is hosted across multiple locations, taking it down becomes much harder.
Naturally, clustered hosting is more expensive than traditional shared hosting, but provides obvious benefits.
