We’ve been taking a harder stance against non-paying customers excluding those with non-payment issues from participating in new auctions and from winning auctions where they were already participants. We are in the process of rolling out a new non-payment policy to further address these issues, especially recurring non-payment.

Regardless of what steps NameJet is taking to deter auction winners from walking out, the fact still remains that auctions are legally binding and an auction site that wants to be taken seriously shouldn’t take such a matter so lightly. It’s good the company is pledging to improve, but shouldn’t these reforms have been introduced from the get-go?

NameJet Bidders Refuse to Pay Up https://www.internetblog.org.uk/post/62/namejet-bidders-refuse-to-pay-up/ Mon, 18 May 2009 11:39:10 +0000 http://hostinguk.blogo.it/post/62/namejet-bidders-refuse-to-pay-up/ A number of domains recently sold on NameJet.com have gone back on the auction block. Apparently their buyers refused to pay up.

Toxic.com, which sold earlier this month for £37,389, is now back up for sale after the winning bidder backed out. The new auction is currently at £22,750 with 280 bidders and 2 days lefts to go.

It is despicable that NameJet is letting its customers do this. Regardless of the sale price, auctions are legally binding. Auction sites these days seem eager to cater to the buyer, yet are unwilling to protect the seller. People should think twice before placing a bid, and the site should do more to support seller’s rights.

Latham.com Sells for £7,209 https://www.internetblog.org.uk/post/61/lathamcom-sells-for-7209/ Fri, 15 May 2009 19:25:36 +0000 http://hostinguk.blogo.it/post/61/lathamcom-sells-for-7209/ Domain latham.com sold for £7,209 ($11,000 USD) at NameJet a few minutes ago. The winning bidder was “apres.” In all, 72 bids were placed.

Latham is not only a surname, but also the name of several towns and cities across the world. There is also a large law firm by the name of Latham & Watkins. It is unclear if the law firm has attempted to buy the name in the past.

A quick look at Archive.org shows the name has been in use since 1998. There are 38 links pointing to the domain from law sites, so the name was obviously used for a law website at some point.

High Hopes for Toxic.com Auction at NameJet https://www.internetblog.org.uk/post/19/high-hopes-for-toxiccom-auction-at-namejet/ Tue, 05 May 2009 14:11:01 +0000 http://hostinguk.blogo.it/post/19/high-hopes-for-toxiccom-auction-at-namejet/ Domainers have high hopes for domain Toxic.com at an ongoing Internet auction conducted by NameJet.

Earlier today, domain news website The Domains reported that the name sold for £37,389 ($56,566 USD).

The sale apparently didn’t work out, however, as the name is currently listed at £6,609 ($9999.00 US). So far 276 bids have been placed.

Industry experts are watching the auction with interest. Toxic.com will likely sell for at least £35,000. For those unwilling to break the bank to buy a piece of Internet real estate, Toxic.net is also up for sale. After 153 bids, the price is at a meager £284 ($430 USD).

UPDATE: It looks like Toxic.com did indeed sell for £37,389 as The Domain reported. The winning bidder is “yakuza.” Toxic.net also sold for £1,921 ($2,900 USD).
