ICANN announced today that Brussels, Belgium will play host to its 38th international meeting on June 20-25, 2010. The event is to be sponsored by the European Registry of Internet Domain Names (EURid), the operator of the .eu TLD.

A number of other European cities were also considered for the event, but in the end the California organization decided Brussels was the best place. Probably trying hard not to wet his pants, ICANN meeting manager Nick Tomasso remarked, “ICANN looks forward to its first international public meeting in Belgium.”

The last international meeting was held in Sydney. Before Brussels, two more events are scheduled: one in Seoul and then another in Nairobi, Kenya.

More than one-fifth of ICANN’s budget goes towards travel to meetings like Brussels. The organization claims that this is necessary in order to truly be a multinational agency, but critics claim that other means of communication, such as email and teleconferencing, would better serve its needs.

More details about the sale of Christian.com have emerged. The buyer is Boris Kreiman, the same person who bought Call.com for £675,364 ($1.1 million USD). He plans on using the name for a Christian social networking and general information site.

Kreiman has also acquired several other names as of late, but is keeping the details secret.

In other news, The European Registry of Internet Domain Names (EURid), the operator of the .eu TLD, announced a growth of 66,129 new registrations in July. This is a 15% increase from the same time last year. A recent progress report showed an annual increase of 3.1%. Considering the tough economic times, this growth is very good.
