Host your own game server

PC games are a lot of fun, but even more fun when you can play them online with your friends. Presently, a huge market exists for game server hosting, but did you know you can host a game server at home?

While you won’t get the same performance as someone hosting in a data center, if you’re ISP allows it, there is nothing stopping you from hosting a small Counter-Strike or Call of Duty session from home. Most games have either a client you can download or a menu shortcut to do this.

To get the best possible game experience, make sure the game is dedicated (ie hosted on a separate computer). If someone plays on the same computer that is hosting the game, performance will be significantly reduced. And finally, the closer all the players are geographically to the server and the faster their connections, the less lag there will be.
