New Orleans to host 2010 Geodomain Expo

new orleans
On April 28-30, 2010, geodomain owners from across the world will get together in New Orleans, Louisiana to network and discuss their unique trade at Geodomain Expo 2010.

Often confused with ccTLDs, geodomains are domains of any extension that refer to a particular geographic area. Examples include England.co.uk and NewYork.com. Geodomain websites often represent the interests of a metropolitan area and report on news much like a local newspaper would, gaining clout against more established news sources in the region.

The event will coincide with Jazz Fest, the second-largest event in the popular tourist city after Mardi Gras. It will be hosted by Associated Cities, a network of geodomain websites that includes NewYorkCity.com, Vancouver.com, and of course, NewOrleans.com. Previous Domain Expos have been held in San Diego and Chicago.

New Orleans will also host its own annual domain conference, Domainer Mardi Gras, for the second time in 2010. As the name implies, it is held during Mardi Gras.

It’s not a coincidence that New Orleans domain events are coordinated around events like Mardi Gras notorious for their “anything goes” attitude. No doubt the sponsors want participants to be nice and smashed before bidding in domain auctions.
