Those with a good memory will remember that last year, Japanese ISP launched a contest for the best new gTLD called the World Domain Cup. People from all around the world suggested ideas for new gTLDs and then the public voted for the best ones. Here are the top ten:
- .web
- .earth
- .love
- .world
- .orz
- .blog
- .www
- .moe
- .home
- .free
Keep in mind that despite the results of the vote, Interlink still decides the winner, who will receive a share of revenue from the gTLD as well as $10,000 USD. That’s probably a good thing, too. Judging from the results, it doesn’t look like the general public has any clue at all what would make a good extension. Ideas like .blog and .web look great, but .moe and .free? Really?
More information about the contest results is available here.
