How quickly can you put a server together?

Ever wondered how quickly you could build a dedicated server? That’s what visitors to The Planet’s booth at the SXSW Interactive will figure out this week. The company has set up a contest that challenges participants to put together an entire Pentium 4 server from scratch. The winner will receive a free ASUS Eee PC netbook.

In the video above, the demonstrator completes the task in just under 50 seconds. This includes installing the CPU heatsink, RAM, ribbon cables, and putting the cover on the system case. However, participants may install the components in any order they wish and are given two attempts.

I’m curious to see how this turns out, but let’s just hope The Planet doesn’t host any customers using this server after the show ends!
