Data center hardware sales on the rise

Data released in a report by TeleGeography shows that things are looking good for the data center industry. A total of $3.2 billion worth of switches were sold last quarter and international bandwidth usage has increased by 60%.

Most of the growth in network traffic was seen in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. The United States and Europe experienced heavy gains, too. To handle this increasing load, network providers built 17 new submarine cables last year.

The health of the data center market is often a good indicator of how well the rest of the economy is doing. Firms will not invest in capital goods like switches and servers unless they are confident in future profits.
