How to setup email forwarders in cPanel

cPanel forwarders
Question: How can I use cPanel to forward emails sent to addresses in my domain to another email address?

Answer: The web-based control panel called cPanel makes it easy to create email forwarders. A forwarder allows you to setup any number of virtual email addresses within your domain and then forward emails sent to them to one or many different addresses. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Login to cPanel.
2. In the “Mail” section, click “Forwarders”
3. Click “add Forwarder”
4. Where it says “Address to Forward” enter the part of the email address that comes before the @ symbol. This should be a prefix that does not already exist as a real email address.
5. In the dropdown menu, select the domain name (if you have more than one).
6. Under “Destination” you can forward emails to an internal or external address, discard and return an error message, or “Pipe to a Program”, meaning that a script will handle the emails.

That is all it takes. Now email sent to the address you specified will automatically be forwarded wherever you want.

Gain access to cPanel from anywhere with JAP

Many people who manage websites also have other jobs, and even those who do not frequently find themselves traveling and away from the comfort of their own home Internet connection. In such situations, users sometimes find themselves behind firewalls that prevent them from accessing certain services, including web hosting control panels like cPanel.

The reason for the restriction is usually not to prevent people from specifically accessing cPanel but rather just a general blocking of any “unnecessary” ports by the network’s firewall. JAP4CPANEL (or simply JAP) allows you to access cPanel, WebHostManager, and webmail all through port 80, acting as a proxy between your network and your server.

With JAP, you will be able to access cPanel no matter where you are. It is available for PHP4 and PHP5 and also requires cURL, which is installed on most active web servers. JAP is free and open source software, released under the LGPL.

cPanel hosting

cpanel
Many web hosts use a control panel called cPanel, a user interface that lets a customer access various services and aids in site administration.

The largest hosts often use their own proprietary control panels, but I often recommend cPanel hosts because the software is so widely used. If you ever find you need to switch providers, you can just find another company that uses cPanel and avoid the hassle of learning a new system.

Cpanel controls a number of site functions. These include setting up mailboxes, adding domains, MySQL database administration, setting up FTP accounts, and more. Many cPanel hosts also offer Fantastico, a very useful add-on that allows the end-user to install more than 50 scripts and CMS’s automatically. This includes Joomla, WordPress, phpBB, and SMF.

Which is Which Among Web Hosting Control Panels?

22 May, 2009

A control panel is the interface used to interact with your web hosting account. Similar to the Control Panel feature in Windows, most day-to-day maintenance tasks are performed through one. Examples include creating accounts, managing MYSQL databases, and uploading files (if you don’t use FTP or SSH).

Some hosts have their own custom control panels, while many others use popular third party options like cPanel or Plesk. Few newcomers to web hosting know much of anything about control panels. They all offer the same features for the most part, but there are some differences between them:
