As part of bankrupt technology retailer Circuit City’s liquidation auction, the domain 800.com was sold for £154,254 ($250,000 USD).

The auction was held on August 18 and attended not by domainers, but by end users interesting in developing the name. 800.com was formerly a failed web start-up before it was bought by Circuit City several years ago.

Domains generally tend to fair well at bankruptcy auctions. Earlier this month, KBtoys.com, the former online home to one of America’s largest toy retailers, sold for £1.25 million.
