Yahoo buys me.me

In an effort to market it’s meme.yahoo.com social networking site, Yahoo has bought the me.me domain name through a special sale with the .Me Registry.

The domain currently redirects to the meme page, but does Yahoo have bigger plans for it? Perhaps it is planning a URL redirect, just like Twitter? Or maybe the company just wanted me.me because it is so easy to market and remember?

Either way, Yahoo’s acquisition of the name was a good move. Now let’s just hope the site actually takes off. Last time I checked, people were still addicted to Facebook and Twitter.

Me.me is only one of two dual-letter .me domains. The other is WP.me, which WordPress acquired several months ago.
