In what is the highest .org sale ever, Poker.org has sold in a private transaction for $1 million USD. The domain was brokered by a prominent domain auction house and bought by PokerCompany.com.
This sale is so significant because it shows more than anything that the .com extension is becoming less and less important. The fact that a .org, especially one dealing with a topic as non-profit as its gets, could sell for $1 million shows that other gTLDs have gained quite a bit of prominence.
The previous extension bigwig was engineering.org, which fetched $198,000 some time ago. There are currently 7 million .org registrations– an 11% increase from more than a year ago.
